Sentimental and Memento mori jewellery were very popular in the Victorian period. They were worn in remembrance if a lost loved one, and indicated to others that they were in a period of mourning.
Hands were a very popular motif and were very common in jewelry, glassware and ceramics. They were meaningful pieces
made popular by Queen Victoria who remained in black mourning for the last 40 years of her life, following the death of Prince Albert.
This pendant was faithfully cast from a mourning pendant that I have in my own personal collection.
This pendant is made of solid sterling silver. It is flat backed, and stamped with .925 and ‘swalk’.
The pendant was oxidized and hand polished to highlight the details and give he pendant a vintage feel.
This pendant measures approx. 40mm including the bail (these are handmade and may vary slightly).
This listing is for the hand amulet only. Any other seals photographed with it are not included in this listing but are available to buy separately in my shop.
You can buy the pendant on its own or with various length chains. This choice is provided to you during the checkout process. Please see the last 2 photographs for differences between the regular chain and heavier chain.
You pendant will come wrapped in tissue in a small cotton draw string bag, which is also great for storing the piece when not in use.
