This is the image from an antique wax seal stamp from the 1700's. These were used to seal letters and correspondence and come is a huge variety of designs, mottos, sentiments, heraldry and proverbs...
This seal features a lovers knot in the shape of an eternity symbol. The ends of the string are held by two little birds which are flying in opposite directions. The motto states in French ‘plus loin, plus serré’. This translates to ‘the further , tighter.... which can be interpreted as ‘the further away the tighter the knot’. So as the birds fly in opposite directions the eternity knot gets tighter. Thus cementing the link and strengthening it between the two. A bond that is strengthened by distance. Perfect for a long distance love, a child far from home or two friends parting for a time.

The charm measures 17.5.mm across the centre. This may vary however as each one is made by hand.

Wax Seal Jewelry......
Each piece offered for sale is an imprint or cast of an antique wax seal from my personal collection. I use 100% sterling silver as this has the strength and durability needed for a piece of jewelry that is to be worn for years. All the jumps rings, clasps etc, are also sterling silver and each part is soldered, also for strength and durability. My intention is to make a piece that could become an heirloom too and for it to last generations.
Each piece is individually handmade and therefore no two pieces will be exactly the same, they will however be extremely similar. The mark of the maker has been purposely left on the casts. The signs of age, cracks and tool marks all add to the charm of the piece and are an intentional feature.
