This sterling silver pendant was cast from an antique wax seal. It dates from approx. 1798.
During 1798 there was a rebellion against English rule in Ireland. There was some sympathy amongst the ordinary English people who showed their support by using wax seal stamps that showed their support of the Irish bid for freedom.
This seal features a sprig of shamrock. One of Ireland national emblems. Around the shamrock are the words 'Cuislin mo Cree'. This is the Anglicised version of 'Cuislin mo chroí'.
This translates literally to 'pulse/beat of my heart'. But it is used as an endearment meaning 'you are the pulse of my heart, or you are what my heart beats for, or you are my sweetheart.'
in recent popular cultural the phrase 'mo chuisle mo chroí' or 'mo chuisle' was used in the movie 'million dollar baby'. This means , 'my' beat of my heart. whereas on this seal the definitive article is used and it means 'the beat of my heart'.

Wax Seal Jewelry......
Each piece offered for sale is an imprint or cast of an antique wax seal from my personal collection. I use 100% sterling silver as this has the strength and durability needed for a piece of jewelry that is to be worn for years. All the jumps rings, clasps etc, are also sterling silver and each part is soldered, also for strength and durability. My intention is to make a piece that could become an heirloom too and for it to last generations.
Each piece is individually handmade and therefore no two pieces will be exactly the same, they will however be extremely similar. The mark of the maker has been purposely left on the casts. The signs of age, cracks and tool marks all add to the charm of the piece and are an intentional feature.
