Be Just and fear not........
let the truth protect you.
This pendant was cast from an antique wax seal stamp from the 1800's. These were used to seal letters and correspondence and come in a huge variety of designs, mottos, sentiments, heraldry and proverbs...
This seal features the image of a pair of wings. Below the wings in a banner is the phrase 'Be just and fear not'. It is unusual to get a coat of arms with English instead of Latin, and this is a wonderful example.
The wings in heraldry represent protection.....
This seal is contemporary to the poet Henry Alfred (1810- 1871)
and may refer to his poem,
Be Just and Fear not....
SPEAK thou the truth. Let others fence,
And trim their words for pay:
In pleasant sunshine of pretence
Let others bask their day.
Guard thou the fact; though clouds of night
Down on thy watch-tower stoop:
Though thou shouldst see thine heart’s delight
Borne from thee by their swoop.

The safe, must first be tried.

While each wild gust the mist shall clear

And justified at last appear
The true, in Him that’s True.

This is a fairly big pendant and measures approx. 22mm in diameter.
This size is only approximate though because each piece is made individually by hand and may vary slightly.

Wax Seal Jewelry......
Each piece offered for sale is an imprint or cast of an antique wax seal from my personal collection. I use 100% sterling silver as this has the strength and durability needed for a piece of jewelry that is to be worn for years. All the jumps rings, clasps etc, are also sterling silver and each part is soldered, also for strength and durability. My intention is to make a piece that could become an heirloom too and for it to last generations.
Each piece is individually handmade and therefore no two pieces will be exactly the same, they will however be extremely similar. The mark of the maker has been purposely left on the casts. The signs of age, cracks and tool marks all add to the charm of the piece and are an intentional feature.
