Claddagh rings were first made in Galway, Ireland, in 1750. Based on the Fede ring it represents love, loyalty and friendship. It has become synonymous with Irish identity and is often handed down through generations.
I want to make my own version of this ring and I wanted to make it solid and strong and with the best materials I could find so that it was seen as an heirloom piece and something to treasure, rather than ‘fast fashion’ and fleeting trends
Hand carved from a band of wax this ring took me over a dozen hours to create. I then cast it in 9 carat yellow gold. And hand finished and polished it to a lovely glowing gleam.
This ring to me symbolises modern Ireland. Big, bold and strong. Unapologetic, and future facing, yet ornate and elegant giving a nod to the past.
This table of this ring measures 20mm and the band is 6mm. This ring was built to last! I chose 9 carat gold because of its strength and resistance to wear.
The ring weighs 10.31 grams of solid gold (not plated, not coated, not vermeil, not hollow.)
It will be presented in a wooden ring box in a mahogany colour with a luxe cream leatherette interior. Perfect for gifting.
