Keep death in mind at all times, in order to appreciate life more and to remain humble in the face of it’s adversity…… Mark Manson (the subtle art of not giving a f**k).
The Victorians didn’t invent Memento mori jewellery but in my opinion the did excel at it. Memento Mori or ‘remember you must die’ were worn during periods of mourning to symbolise the loss of a loved one. To remind the wearer and the viewer that life is finite and that we will all die eventually. By remembering we all must die it reminds us that we must live fully. To savour every moment, and appreciate the gift of life while you have it.
I took this idea of a mourning skull, which reminds us that our destiny’s are ultimately all the same, and individualised them with genuine earth mined sapphires on different vibrant jewel colours. These represent our individual sparks of divinity and the beauty of our souls which animate our skulls (bodies).
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is a man prepared to die at any time.” Mark Twain
