Memento mori jewellery was very popular in the Victorian period. They were worn in remembrance if a lost loved one, and indicated to others that they were in a period of mourning. These were made popular by Queen Victoria who remained in black mourning for the last 40 years of her life, following the death of Prince Albert. These earring we're made using an antique pair of Victorian memento mori earrings. I faithfully reproduced them in solid sterling silver using the ancient method of lost was casting and was delighted to find vintage stock of onyx balls to add to them. The bird claws were hung on a pair of handformed earwires. They are highly detailed and I have added a patina to darken the silver and emphasis the details. They are charming and quirky and full of personality. These earrings measure 34mm from the top of the earwires to the bottom of the onyx balls Your earrings will come wrapped in tissue in a small cotton draw string bag, which is also great for storing the piece when not in use.
