Medusa...... Greek mythology.
This antique wax letter seal features the image of Medusa. The most well know women of Greek mythology. Medusa's story is one of a multidimensional women who embodies fierceness, revenge, a survivor, and a terrible beauty who could turn men to stone with a single glance.
She has survived terrible difficulties and she ends up as an emblem on the goddess Athena's Shield as an symbol of a ferocious warrior, a strong woman and a mighty force to both kill and redeem.
The charm measures 18mm across the from top to bottom not including the bale loop. This may vary however as each one is made by hand. About this seal: This image was made using a 'Tassie Seal'. James Tassie (1735–1799) was a Scottish gem engraver and modeller. He carved and reproduced art from the antiquities in glass 'gem like' seals. These were collected as souvenirs from 'The grand tour'. The Grand Tour was a trip of Europe, typically undertaken by the rich and privileged which begun in the 17th century and went through to the mid-19th. The Grand Tour was seen as an educational trip across Europe, usually starting in Dover, and would see young, wealthy travellers search for arts and culture.
