The Fleur de Lis (or Lily) is an ancient symbol that has been used by royalty for centuries. It may be "at one and the same time, religious, political, dynastic, artistic, emblematic, and symbolic", especially in French heraldry. Some of the most famous people who have used the Fleur de lis in their arms were 12th century French kings Louis Vi and Louis the Vii who first adapted it, the emblem was also awarded to the family of Joan of Arc.
