Victorian figa hand. Sterling silver good luck charm.
Figa hands have been popular since the Roman age. The gesture of a thumb wedged between two fingers was most commonly used to ward off the evil eye and jealousy. Ornaments with this symbol were worn by the Victorians as a good luck charm.
This figa hand is an exact copy of one in my personal collection, it was cast using the ancient method of lost wax casting.
It is highly detailed and the figa hand is wearing a bracelet that has a tiny figa hand hung on it too. The hand has a detailed cuff with ‘fleur di lis’ and braiding on it.
The hand is made of solid sterling silver and is not a cheap hollow amulet.
The pendant was oxidized and hand polished to highlight the details and give he pendant a vintage feel.
This pendant measures approx. 40mm including the bail (these are handmade and may vary slightly).
You can buy the pendant on its own or with various length chains. This choice is provided to you during the check out process.
You pendant will come wrapped in tissue in a small cotton draw string bag, which is also great for storing the piece when not in use.
