Skull Stud earrings, Antique Wax seal impressions
This seal features a skull and crossbones and the impression is made using an 18th century memento mori wax letter seal. I then sized the earrings by removing the excess silver to create these neat little studs.
The skull has so much personality and I'd love to know everything he has seen in his long 200 plus years. The most common symbolic use of the skull is as a representation of death and mortality.
Although these earrings are small I haven't skimped on the silver. They are not delicate by any means. The backs are also a generous size.
These earrings have been given an oxidized patina and handpolished to highlight the details.

The earrings measure approx. 10.00mm across the diameter. This may alter slightly due to the fact that each one is made individually by hand. The back of the earrings are quite generously proportioned too.

Wax Seal Jewelry......
Each piece offered for sale is an imprint or cast of an antique wax seal from my personal collection. I use 100% sterling silver as this has the strength and durability needed for a piece of jewelry that is to be worn for years. All the jumps rings, clasps etc, are also sterling silver and each part is soldered, also for strength and durability. My intention is to make a piece that could become an heirloom too and for it to last generations.
Each piece is individually handmade and therefore no two pieces will be exactly the same, they will however be extremely similar. The mark of the maker has been purposely left on the casts. The signs of age, cracks and tool marks all add to the charm of the piece and are an intentional feature.
