This wax seal pendant was cast from an antique seal stamp from the 1850's. These were used to seal letters and correspondence and come in a huge variety of designs, mottos, sentiments, heraldry and proverbs...
This seal features a sprig of shamrock.... one of the most recognizable Irish Emblems.
The seal has the words 'Erin go Bragh" around the edge. The writing is a little worn but this is a 160 year old antique!!. The words 'Erin go Bragh' is the anglicization of the Irish phrase Erin go Brach, which is most often translated to 'Ireland Forever'. It is used to express allegiance to Ireland and is still used today at GAA matches (Irelands national sport.)
Therefore it is a perfect emblem to wear for St. Patricks day... as a gift for someone who is emigrating or for one of the many Irish Diaspora around the world.

This pendant measures approx. 12.8mm in diameter. This is approx however as each piece is made by hand here in my studio in the South East of Ireland.

Wax Seal Jewelry......
Each piece offered for sale is an imprint or cast of an antique wax seal from my personal collection. I use 100% sterling silver as this has the strength and durability needed for a piece of jewelry that is to be worn for years. All the jumps rings, clasps etc, are also sterling silver and each part is soldered, also for strength and durability. My intention is to make a piece that could become an heirloom too and for it to last generations.
Each piece is individually handmade and therefore no two pieces will be exactly the same, they will however be extremely similar. The mark of the maker has been purposely left on the casts. The signs of age, cracks and tool marks all add to the charm of the piece and are an intentional feature.
